Roller Coaster Games to Play

Many fun and creative games are available in which players can build their very own roller coasters. Some of these games are simulations of many aspects of theme park management, but most of these games have the objective of creating exciting coasters. This enables the game play to be very simple or very complex---challenging the players of these games to build more creative and more elaborate coasters.
  1. RollerCoaster Tycoon by Atari

    • Atari's RollerCoaster Tycoon is an arcade and PC game that simulates many of the aspects of theme park management. Along with building roller coasters, in this game players must also strive to satisfy the numerous other needs and wants of the park guests. When it comes to the coasters, each guest has a specific "intensity" they like to find in theme park rides. Players can simply pick up guests and direct them to the rides they are most likely to enjoy. The more guests enjoy themselves, the more money they spend. The more money earn, the more improvements players can make to their park. Players use money not only to build rides, but also to hire workers to keep the park energetic (entertainers), clean (handymen), and secure (security guards).

Discovery Kids Build a Roller Coaster

    • The Discovery Kids in-browser computer game Build a Roller Coaster has a simple platform: players combine the eight styles of coaster track to create coasters that are as exciting as they can think up. The track pieces have fitting names such as "Large Loop" and "Large Camel Back." The track icons are simply clicked and dragged onto the theme park grounds. After completing the entire track, players hit "submit your coaster" and it's off and running. During the coaster's run the screams of the riders are measured on the "Fear-o-Meter." At the end of the game, the overall score of the screams/coaster excitement is shown.

    Rollercoaster Creator

    • In the computer game Rollercoaster Creator, players use an on-screen pencil to draw a track from platform A (the starting point) to platform B (the finishing line). To make getting from start to finish trickier, players must run the course of the coasters track into numerous checkpoints in order to complete each round. As the rounds are completed, more pencil/track options are added to the game allowing players to create steep inclines, loops and various other ride features.
