Senior Club Activities

A seniors' club is a way for seasoned citizens to get together, reminisce about times and enjoy games and other activities with others around the same age. If you run a seniors' club or are in the process of organizing a new one, it can be a good idea to have a varied set of activities available, as not everyone will enjoy doing the same things. The more fun things that you have available to do, the more likely you will be to continue attracting visitors.
  1. Historical War Gaming

    • If members of your group are veterans or simply enjoy intellectual activities, try a historical war game. As of 2010, gaming website Board Game Geek ranks "Twilight Struggle," "Paths of Glory" and "Hannibal: Rome vs. Carthage" the three best historical war games. Serious war games often require more than two hours to play but you could play a few turns a week over several weeks rather than completing an entire game in one sitting.

    Dance Night

    • Hold a dance night featuring music from a particular decade, such as jazz from the 1940s or early rock and roll from the 1950s. For the rock and roll night, you could save on your entertainment budget by having the members of the club take turns singing songs karaoke-style. For a jazz night, have a jazz band from a local high school come and provide entertainment.

    Physical Fitness

    • As a senior, staying active is important for maintaining a healthy heart, bone and muscles. Something as simple as a walk in a local park can contribute to overall physical fitness. Other low-impact activities that you can use to get people up and moving around include lawn games such as croquet and swimming at the local community pool.

    Support Local Schools

    • Select a local school sports team that does not receive enough support from the locals, and begin attending their games. For example, you might select the high school baseball team if they are not having a good year. Kids are sometimes reluctant to admit how much it means to them when others take the time to come and watch their activities, but you may find that your support helps turn the team's season around.

    Reading Night

    • Visual acuity tends to decrease as people get older, and some of your club's members may not be able to read small print with the ease they once did. Have a local volunteer come and read classic books aloud to the group. On nights when you are unable to find a volunteer, hold a movie night instead.
