Easy Games & Activities for Kids

Children have loads of energy and lots of free time that needs to be filled with safe and fun entertainment. Simple games and activities keep kids amused while also expanding their imaginations, giving them exercise, allowing them to be creative and sometimes even teaching them a thing or two along the way.
  1. Marbles

    • Marbles is an easy game children of all ages love. Give kids numerous marbles of all colors to play with then draw a circle on the ground as the marble station where they will shoot marbles. Each child get five marbles and places them inside the circle. Kids take turns being the shooter. When it's the shooter's turn, he uses a separate marble and shoots it or flicks it toward the other marbles in an attempt to knock them out of the circle. All marbles that the shooter hits out become his. The winner is the person who has the most marbles at the end of the round.

    Coloring Time

    • Coloring or drawing is an easy activity children love. Set up a table with crayons, colored pencils, coloring books and blank paper. Let the kids use their imagination and spend hours coloring or drawing whatever pops into their minds.

    Go Fish

    • Go Fish is a classic children's card game. The rules are simple and kids can get into it, especially if you have a couple fun illustrated decks of cards. Each person draws seven cards and then lays down her pairs if she has any. Play continues with each person asking another player if he has a specific card such as an 8. If that player has an 8 he must to give it to the player who asked. If he doesn't have an 8, he will say "go fish" and the player who asked must draw a card. Play continues until one person has all her cards down in pairs.

    Catch

    • A simple ball can provide hours of amusement and healthy exercise for children. Play catch with a baseball or football. Catch is simply two or more people throwing the ball to one another.

    Soccer

    • Set up two goals in a large area such as a backyard. Make sure the goals are at an equal distance from the center or start line. Play begins with two teams, one team on either side, with a ball dropped in the center. Players must pass the ball without using their hands and try to score goals by kicking or head butting the ball into the net. The team with the most goals wins.

    Volleyball

    • For volleyball, all you need is a net and volleyball. Form teams, with an equal number of people on each side of the net. One person serves the ball over the net. The opposite team must try to hit the ball back over the net in hopes that the other team won't get to it or be able to hit back over. Once a team fails to hit the ball or hits it outside the designated area, the other team scores a point. The first team to 21 points wins.

    Bubbles

    • Bubbles can keep young children entertained for hours. Make sure they only play outdoors so you don't get bubbles all over your floors. Get different bubble tools such as bubble wands, which create different shapes of bubbles. Encourage kids to run after the bubbles and try to catch them.
