Balloon Tower
Try the "Balloon Tower," an activity in which different teams use 150 to 200 balloons and a roll of masking tape to try to build the tallest freestanding tower. The teams can be of any size, and each will have 30 minutes to complete its tower. The activity facilitator should keep the teams apprised of the time remaining. The main benefit of this activity is in the "debriefing," when the teams answer questions about what they did well as a team, what went wrong and what they could improve.
Earthquake Drill
Check out the "Earthquake Drill." In this activity, teams are each split into two groups. Half the team stays in the room being used for the activity and builds a rock formation. Then, the formation is disassembled, and the other half of the team is asked to come back into the room. The second half of the team is then blindfolded and must reconstruct the rock formation by following oral commands from the non-blindfolded members of the team. This activity improves communication skills.
Rock Climbing Team Building
"Rock climbing builds teamwork, confidence and inspiration with a fun team building exercise," according to Teambuilding-leader.com, which also recommends several different corporate rock climbing gyms that offer programs tailored to individual clients' team-building needs. Courses may include rappelling, rock climbing and high- or low-rope-course elements that will challenge participants to confront fears and work together to solve problems.
