Party Games for the Blind

You can play a variety of games at parties with visually impaired guests. Think of games that don't require the sense of sight. Games that rely on hearing or the sense of touch are ones that everyone in the group can enjoy.
  1. Name That Tune

    • Name that Tune only requires the sense of hearing to play. Set the guests up in a semicircle around a speaker or television. Prepare a variety of song clips--some that everyone in the group will know to warm up, and then others that may be slightly more challenging. For instance, if you are dealing with a group of teenagers, start out by playing Top 40 hits, and then move into music from the 1980s and '90s that only some of them may know. Either separate the group into teams and have them ring in with their answer, or give each guest a piece of paper and have them write down their guesses. Have the guests answer just the song title or artist, and give bonus points for guests who know both answers. Whichever guest gets the most answers right wins.

    Identify by Smell/Touch

    • Play games that require all of the guests to use a sense other than sight. Set up a table full of shoeboxes with different types of food or other objects inside. Blindfold any guests that are not visually impaired. Have the group move in a line down the table of objects, inserting their hands in the shoeboxes and feeling what's inside. Then they must guess what each object is. This is an especially good Halloween party activity, because you can use peeled grapes as "eyeballs," and spaghetti as "guts." An alternate take on this game is to fill bags with different items that are strongly scented, such as various herbs and spices. Pass the bags around to the guests and have them smell each item and guess what it is. You may find that players who are visually impaired are better at this game due to the fact that they are already used to relying on senses other than their eyes.

Pin the Tail on the Donkey

    • Pin the Tail on the Donkey is a classic game that already relies on the players being unable to see, making it an ideal party game for the visually impaired. Tape a large picture of the donkey on the wall; the donkey, of course, is missing his tail. Place a piece of tape on the end of the unattached tail. Blindfold the guests that are not visually impaired, and have them try to place the tail on the donkey in the right spot. The guest who gets closest to the right location wins a prize.
