How to Make a Washer Game Score Board

As with many games, keeping score in washers--also called washer toss or Texas horseshoes--is an essential part of play. Keeping track of the score in your head can lead to disagreements, so with a scoreboard there are fewer discrepancies and thus less time spent away from game play. Though some websites sell their own scoreboard models, a do-it-yourself creation both saves money and can complement both the landscape of your backyard and the personalities of those playing.

Instructions

  1. Board

    • 1

Mark lines on your plywood to create a 1/2-by-3-foot scoreboard, using a pencil and ruler or measuring tape. The size can vary, if you'd like.

    • 2

Place your plywood on a safe and sturdy surface, and saw along the perimeter of your marks.

    • 3

Smooth the plywood surface and edges with sandpaper.

    Design

    • 4

Mark guides where the 22 score lines will be painted, using pencil. Use your tape measure or ruler to ensure equal spacing all the way down the board, but leave enough space to put team names at the top. For example, if your scoreboard is 36 inches tall, space the 22 lines out 1 1/2 inches and leave 3 inches at the top for team names.

    • 5

Mark numbers 0 to 21--the number of points per game, according to WasherTossGames.com--for the score along the left and right sides of the board with a pencil.

    • 6

Write both the score lines and the numbers with white paint. Other colors can be substituted, but white shows up well.

    • 7

Prop your scoreboard against a tree, chair or any object available near the game area.
