Tween Slumber Party Games

For tweens---kids between 10 and 12 years old---a popular way to spend time with their friends is to have a slumber party. In order to keep the almost-teenagers entertained, there are a variety of safe and entertaining games that parents can have their tweens play at these all-night gatherings.
  1. Truth or Dare

    • A staple at slumber parties for generations, Birthday Party Ideas 4 Kids offers examples of appropriate questions and dares for tweens to use. Truth or Dare is a game where everyone sits in a circle and takes turns asking each other this simple question---Truth or Dare? It is up to the person being asked to choose whether they want to answer with honesty or do a dare. Some examples of truth questions include, "If you had to be a boy for a day, who would you be and why?" or "What is the strangest dream you have ever had?" Some examples of dare ideas include, "Try licking your elbow while singing the alphabet" or "Dance crazy with no music."

    Drama Bag Game

    • In a different variation of charades, parents can fill two shopping bags with five different items---include things like shoes, hats or party toys. Each shopping bag should contain different items. Tweens at the slumber party should divide into two teams, each taking one of the shopping bags. It is up to each team to create a play or skit based on the items in the shopping bag in just 15 minutes. The teams then perform their skits for each other.

    Candy Bar Game

    • If there's one thing that tweens love, it's chocolate, and it's easy to incorporate candy into a slumber party. Parents can purchase between 10 and 20 candy bars then come up with witty definitions for each candy bar. It's up to those at the party to guess which candy bar goes with which definition. The person who guesses correctly wins the candy bar, but it is recommended that parents limit the number of candy bars each person wins in order to make sure everyone gets a chance. Examples of candy bars and definitions include, "A famous swashbuckling trio of old" which is for the 3 Musketeers bar, or "peculiar laughter" which is for the Snickers bar.
