PVC Ladder Game
In the Ladder Game---sometimes known as "Hillbilly Golf"---players throw golf-ball bolos toward a ladder made of PVC piping, scoring varying points when one of their bolos lands on each rung of the ladder. Play usually consists of two teams or players, and the game is played to 21 points. The game is constructed by building a three-step ladder out of PVC tubing, with long PVC tubes attached perpendicularly to the top section for a base. The golf ball bolos are made by drilling a small hole into 2 golf balls, inserting one end a piece of yarn or string through each and securing it in place with a screw. Each bolo should be 8 inches long.
PVC Washer Toss
In washer toss, each team or player attempts to throw washers into a playing box with a short piece of PVC tubing mounted in the middle. Each washer landed inside the tubing earns one point, with the game typically ending at 21 points. Washer Toss is made with an open-topped box (or a drawer from a dresser) and a large, round PVC pipe or fitting as the inner ring.
PVC Lawn Darts
The sale of lawn dart games was banned in the United States in 1988, but players can make their own darts and throwing rings with PVC parts and tubing and some basic hardware. Two rings are placed some distance apart, and each player or team tries to throw their darts into the ring. Each dart thrown inside earns one point, with the game ending at 21. Each "ring" is made of PVC tubing connected into the shape of a circle with either straight or bent PVC connectors.
PVC Horseshoes
Horseshoe pits can also be constructed from large (3-inch or larger) PVC pipes, with some smaller tubing used as stakes. (PVC stakes will be flexible rather than rigid.) After construction, players can throw standard horseshoes according to traditional horseshoe rules. Buy PVC pipes that are eight feet in length or more, then cut the pipes to the dimensions of each pit. Each stake should stand 1 foot out of the ground, and extend 6 to 12 inches into the soil for stability.
