How to Play
Shuffleboard is played by two players (or four players in teams of two) standing at the same end of the table. Each team is given four puck-shaped, colored playing pieces called weights. Players slide their weights by hand down the table towards the opposite end, attempting to have it land as far into the scoring area as possible without their weight sliding off the end of the table. In order to be valid and potentially scored, the weight must pass the foul line closest to the shooting end of the table.
Taking Turns
On each turn, players attempt to either have their weight reach the farthest distance on the table or to knock off the other player's weight. Therefore the team that shoots last is considered as having the advantage. Whichever team weight has traveled the farthest is the winner of that round. After the round is over, teams move to the opposite end of the table where the weights landed and play starts all over again, teams now aiming at the end from from which they previously shot.
Scoring
Points can only be earned by the team whose weight reached the farthest spot on the table. The winning team receives additional points for each weight that surpassed the opposing teams weights. Scoring is determined by the area on the table on which the weights landed, called zones. There are three main scoring zones marked on a shuffleboard table: Trey (worth 3 points), Deuce (2 points), and One (1 point). The weight must lie completely within the zone to receive the correct points. Line touching does not count. If a player's weight extends in any way over the edge of the scoring end of the table, it is called a Hanger and is worth 4 points.
How to Win
Play continues in rounds until one team reaches a total of 21 points.
