Fabric, Sewing Machine and Decoratives
A bingo bag requires 1/3 yard patterned fabric of your choice and a fat quarter (18-by-22-inch piece) of solid color fabric. Considering that the supplies being carried in the bingo bag are lightweight, the fabric should also be lightweight. Choose fabric that adds originality and character to the personalized bingo bag to form the body and pockets.
A sewing machine or needle and thread are necessary to assemble all parts of the bingo bag. Either means will work, but a sewing machine is quicker and more precise.
Ribbons, rhinestones and iron-on designs are a few examples of other ways you can personalize a bingo bag. Ribbons can be sewn on as a trim detail around the outside of the bag to correspond with the fabric pattern, while rhinestones and iron-on designs can also be added to further personalize the bingo bag.
Interfacing, Cord and Iron
A 4 1/2-inch circle of stiff fusible interfacing is needed to fuse together the patterned and colored fabrics on the bingo bag. Interface is a kind of sticky substance that holds two different materials together.
An iron is used to join the interfacing to the patterned and colored fabrics.
You'll also need 1 yard of cord. The cord does not need to be heavy, because the fabric and supplies needed are so lightweight. The cord is to be threaded through a cuff at the top of the bingo bag and pulled tight or loosened to open and close it.
Fabric Pencil, Ruler and Straight Pins
A fabric pencil or marker is necessary to mark measurements on the fabric and to create guidelines for the sewing portion of the bingo bag. The color of the fabric used determines the type of utensil needed: Darker fabrics need a marker, while lighter fabrics should be marked with a fabric pencil.
A ruler or measuring tape is also needed. This tool is used frequently to create accurate measurements when making the bingo bag.
Straight pins are needed to hold pieces of fabric in place while sewing. A shift in the position of the fabrics can ruin the entire bingo bag.
