Fun Games to Play in Groups

Playing games in groups, regardless of age, is beneficial in many ways. Not only does it stimulate either brain muscles or body muscles--and sometimes both--but it also builds a sense of team spirit and helps participants get better acquainted with each other. Playing games in a group can generate feelings of security and, oftentimes, brings out displays of good sportsmanship. Some activities, especially for younger children, are designed to be learning tools. Others are purely for recreational purposes.
  1. Two Extremes

    • This game works by splitting the room in half with a rope or an invisible line if nothing else is available. Each person then takes a turn to ask the rest of the group a question that's gives some insight into the others' personalities such as: who likes scary movies, or who picks their nose. Depending on their answers, people in the group will move to one side of the line or the other, indicating what their stance is. This turns out to be a hilarious way for players to express themselves and to get to know one another better.

    Wink

    • Wink is a game that works best with lots of participants. It requires physical exertion and quick reflexes. The group of players can consist of varying age groups, but if the ages are wide-ranging, then adjustments may have to be made to compensate for the lower speed of very young players. The game’s concept is very simple to grasp, which is what makes it suitable for everyone. The group stands or sits in a circle facing in and every second person then sits behind the person on his right. The people behind become the catchers and the people in front become runners. One person in the group is designated the winker. This person has to wink at the runners while trying to avoid the gaze of the catchers behind them. The runners that are winked at have to get away from their catchers by leaping forward as fast as they can. If the catcher touches them on the shoulder, then the catcher becomes the runner and the game continues. If the runners get away, they can remain runners. The winker controls the pace of the game and can speed it up by winking at more than one runner.

    Human Knot

    • The Human Knot is a game that promotes team-building, problem-solving and helps players get to know each other better, as well. The game starts with everyone standing in a circle, shoulder to shoulder, facing in. Everyone raises his right hand and reaches across the circle to hold the hand of someone that is not standing directly next to him. All players then raise their left hands and hold onto someone else’s hand across the circle. The object from here is to work together to try to untangle the knot of arms and bodies without anyone releasing anybody else’s hand.
