Indoor Holiday Games

From Valentine's Day to Halloween, holidays are a break from the ordinary and reasons to celebrate. If you are hosting a party to celebrate a holiday that occurs during the cold-weather months or if the event falls on a rainy day, you can provide entertainment by including indoor games that will get your guests, both young and old, mixing and mingling.
  1. Bobbing for Worms

    • Though this game is probably more fitting for a children's Halloween party, adults who enjoy getting a little messy will certainly find enjoyment in it. For each player, fill a bowl with chocolate pudding to look like mud and mix in a handful of gummy worms -- about 15 will do. Set the bowls out on a table (be sure to do this in an area that is easy to clean, as it is bound to get messy). Next to each worm bowl, place an empty bowl. On your mark, players hold their hands behind their backs and bob for worms using only their mouths. When a player finds a worm, he removes it and places it in his empty bowl. Provide guests with 2-5 minutes to complete the task, and blow a whistle at the end. The player to find the most worms wins.

    Unwrap the Christmas Gift

    • In this game, contestants race to see who can unwrap a Christmas gift the quickest while wearing winter mittens. Wrap empty boxes with two or three layers of wrapping paper, one box for each player. Supply each player with a wrapped box and a pair of mittens. On your mark, contestants race to unwrap their boxes. The first player to completely unwrap his gift wins. Award a real Christmas present as a prize.

    Valentine's Day Charades

    • Guests will have fun trying to guess characters, names and objects associated with love while playing a game of Valentine's Day charades. Prior to your party, write down topics associated with Valentine's Day on pieces of scrap paper -- for example, Romeo and Juliet, cupid, love letter, heart, flowers, etc. Fold the papers up and place them in a hat. Divide players into two teams. Players from each team take turns pulling a piece of paper from the hat. The player reads the clue and acts it out, as his team members guess the word or item. Award a point to each team as the members correctly guess the clue. The team with the most points wins.
