Starting the Game
At the start, the object balls numbered from 1 to 10 are racked and the front ball is placed on the foot spot. The 10 ball must be in the center of the rack. The players lag to determine who breaks. The opening break must either pocket an object ball or drive at least four object balls to rails. If the opening breaker fouls, his opponent can choose to re-rack the balls and take a break shot or continue with the balls as is.

Continuing Play
On each shot, the player who is shooting must make the cue ball hit the lowest object ball first. If he does not do this, it is a foul. If, in addition, an object ball is pocketed, then that play continues. If the player neither fouls nor pockets a ball, the other player comes to the table with the cue ball in place. If the player fouls, then his opponent has cue ball "in hand" and can place it anywhere on the table.
All shots must be called, specifying ball and pocket. Balls pocketed without being specified ends that player&'s inning, giving the opponent the next shot.
Winning the Rack and Winning the Game
Whoever sinks the 10 ball on a called shot wins the rack. Combination shots are allowed, but if the 10 ball is pocketed on the break, it is placed on the foot spot and play continues. Whoever lost the rack breaks for the next rack, and whoever wins the specified number of racks wins the game.
