How to Make Safe Ladder Golf Balls

Also known as hillbilly and bolo golf, ladder golf is an outdoor game typically played outdoors at barbecues and picnics. Though generally safe there is danger in the use of certain golf balls in making a homemade game set. Making a safe set of ladder golf balls, however, can be done with a few simple steps.

Things You'll Need

  • Nylon rope
  • Drill

Instructions

  1. Golf Ball Throwers

    • 1

Purchase non-liquid core golf balls. The liquid at the core of some golf balls is held at pressure and can explode upon drilling the ball. To avoid this, purchase non-liquid core balls.

    • 2

Drill a hole through two non-liquid core golf balls. You will be running a small thread of rope through this hole, so you should use a drill bit no smaller than 1/4 inch and be certain to pass the drill all the way through the ball.

    • 3

Knot one end of a piece of 3/16 inch string and pass the other through the two balls.

    • 4

Separate the balls on the string with a distance of 12 inches between them.

    • 5

Cut the open end of the rope and knot the rope. Before you cut the rope, be certain to leave enough lead on the open end of the rope to knot it and preserve the 12 inches of rope between the two balls.

    • 6

Repeat the process five times until you have a full set of six non-liquid cored golf ball throwers.
