Amoeba
Amoeba is a game similar to tag but with a twist, and is suitable for medium to large groups. Unlike tag though, instead of one person being “it” there are two at the start of the game who are the designated amoebas. The two players who are amoebas hold hands and attempt to tag all the other players. If another player is tagged, they become part of the train and must join the link, tagging other players as they go. If a fourth player is tagged they can continue as is or choose to divide into two separate teams of two. Amoebas can link up and divide at will as long as both sides of the amoeba have an equal number of players. The game continues until all the players have become part of the amoeba strands.
Treasure Hunt
A treasure hunt is a great way to entertain and test knowledge skills at the same time. Using pieces of scratch paper or three-by-five cards, parents can set up a treasure hunt hiding cards around the house or neighborhood. Every card gives a clue to the whereabouts of the next clue, and can be written however the game’s administrator sees fit. Cards can be written as riddles or even pertain to school assignments. If you own a set of encyclopedias, you might think to hide clues in a few strategic places there. Likewise the treasure hunt can be set up to last anywhere from a few minutes to an entire afternoon, as the game can continually be expanded as necessary. These games work better with a group of kids; otherwise parents will likely be answering questions and giving clues every step of the way. The treasure at the end can be whatever parents would like it to be, though it really isn’t necessary as children will simply enjoy following all of the clues.
Wink &'Em
Wink ‘Em is a fun game where one player attempts to "murder" as many of the other players as possible before getting caught. Begin by setting aside the same number of cards as there are players, being sure to include an ace of spades among them. Players select a card randomly and lay it face down in front of them sitting in a circle. The player who selected the ace of spades then attempts to wink at the other players without letting anyone else see them do it. If a player is winked at they announce “I’m dead,” and throw their card in to the center of the circle. The ace player continues this process until someone thinks they know who the killer is. Other players can say “I want to make my guess,” and then accuse another player. If they are correct the game is over. If they are incorrect they are dead.
