How to Make a Regulation Bean Bag

The team game of tossing bean bags is also known as cornhole or corn toss. Contests consist of players tossing a corn- or bean-filled bag into a hole in a slanted board. The bags and target boards must be of a certain size and conform to a particular configuration during official games. Tournaments are overseen by the World Bean Bag Association, which is trying to raise the game's reputation from a backyard pastime to an international sport.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut duck canvas fabric into two squares with 6-inch sides. The canvas should be a quality of 12 ounces per square yard, and the squares should be the same solid color or print.

    • 2

Put two squares together with right sides facing each other. Stitch around the square 1/4 inch from the edges with a sewing machine. Stitch again to reinforce the seam. Leave a 2-inch opening on one side for the corn to go in.

    • 3

Push the fabric through the hole to turn the bag right-side out. Square the corners by pushing them out with an unsharpened pencil. You could also use the handle of a wooden spoon or a chopstick.

    • 4

Insert a funnel into the opening of the bag and fill the bag with dried feed corn or beans. Weigh the bag. The weight should be between 14 and 16 ounces.

    • 5

Top-stitch the bag closed on a sewing machine. Stitch again to reinforce the seam.

    • 6

Make three more bags using the above steps to make a team set of regulation bean bags. Make four more bags of a different color to make another team set that can be used by a different team during play. The two team sets together form one entire set of bean bags.
