Animal Bingo
LEGO's website has an online bingo game geared toward preschoolers. Children start with the easiest level, which consists of a three-by-three bingo card. Each square has an animal or a star. The stars represent free spaces. The caller makes an animal sound and the player must select the matching animal on his or her bingo card. If he or she selects the correct animal, the name of the animal pops up on the screen, promoting word recognition for early learners. Once the player has a row filled, he or she wins. The easiest level has five different animals. The medium and hard levels consist of four-by-four bingo cards with 11 different animals.
Role Play
LEGO sells animal-related sets that children can use to role play while harnessing their imagination. The LEGOville pet shop comes with a shopkeeper, girl and three pets. Children can imagine they are the shopkeeper greeting customers, a girl taking care of the animals, or the animals themselves. With LEGO's feeding zoo set, children can role play that they are visitors to the zoo, pretend they are a zookeeper feeding the animals, or make the lions, giraffe, crocodile and elephant come to life. This set also comes with tree, rock wall and enclosure pieces. Additionally, LEGO has farm, circus, veterinarian and medieval market sets that feature animals.
Table Games
LEGO's Lava Dragon is a game for two to four players involving a mythical animal. The object of the game is to reach the top of the volcano, and ride off on the dragon, before another player. Before the players start, they build a volcano out of LEGO, insert the dragon piece on top and choose a knight playing piece. As players roll the dice, they insert their movement pieces on open areas of the die, which will enable them to climb up to a higher level of the volcano. If players roll a side of the die with an orange volcano piece, they position lava blocks to obstruct the climb of another player.
Another LEGO table game featuring an animal is called Magikus. Children build the magic shop out of the provided pieces. The object of the game is to be the first to collect four ingredients for a magic spell. For each turn, a player rolls the die. The color facing up on the die is the color of the ingredient he or she may select. But, he or she may only take an ingredient from the row an owl is sitting on. The owl is moved to a new row before each player takes his or her turn.
