Instructions for Solving a Puzzle Ring

Puzzle rings are thought to have originated in the Middle East and have long been souvenirs for travelers to Turkey and surrounding countries. Now puzzle rings can be purchased online and in novelty stores. Though these rings have many appearances, the process for solving each is basically the same. Each ring consists of a diamond shape and an "X" shape, and the X shape always ends up on top of the diamond shape.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the "V"-shaped rings. Whether your puzzle ring includes four, eight or more rings, the two sides of the diamond shape are made from individual rings that have a V contour.

    • 2

Manipulate each V-shaped ring so that, when held together, the two rings form a diamond shape. This diamond shape is converse to the way the rings actually fit together. When the puzzle ring is complete, these rings are actually the ones on the outside. If you do the puzzle right, the smooth parts of the rings that go around the finger are flush, and you will be able to see all the grooves where these rings will overlap each other later.

    • 3

Turn the ring upside down. That will place the diamond shape at the bottom, facing the floor. The remaining pieces should be loose, and these are the ones that will form the X at the top of the ring. These are also the rings that will end up in the middle.

    • 4

Form the X so that it encloses the diamond shape. To do this, hold the rings that form the diamond with one hand and manipulate the X rings as they dangle over the diamond shape. Once you form the X, grip that part of the ring tightly, especially if it is more than two pieces. It should look like the rings are "facing" each other, but the V-shaped rings will fall away from each other to accommodate the X.

    • 5

Flip the sides of the diamond shape down. The one with closer grooves should be flipped first. This solves the puzzle ring.
