Bumper Pool Directions

Bumper pool is played on a special table that has two felt bumpers guarding the scoring cup on each end rail and eight bumpers affixed to the center of the table. Each player starts with five balls: four solid white balls and a white ball with a red dot, or four solid red balls and a red ball with a white dot. The object of bumper pool is to knock your balls into your scoring cup before your opponent sinks her five balls into her scoring cup.

Instructions

  1. Regular Play

    • 1

Set up the table by placing two red balls to the left and two red balls to the right of the white cup, then position the red ball with the white spot in front of the white cup. Position the five white balls in the same way next to the red cup.

    • 2

Shoot your spotted ball to the right at the same time that your opponent does the same. Each shot must bank off the right rail toward the scoring cup at the opposite end of the table.

    • 3

Determine which ball is closest to the cup. The player whose shot is closest (or who sank the ball in the cup) goes next. If both players make the first shot, they place a second ball in front of the cup and shoot simultaneously again.

    • 4

Alternate shots until one player sinks all five balls. You may not score with any of the solid colored balls until you have scored with the initial spotted ball. The first player to sink all five balls is the winner.

    Special Rules

    • 5

Take an extra shot if you sink one of your balls into your cup.

    • 6

Take two of your balls and drop them into your cup if your opponent knocks a ball off the table. Place the ball back on the table anywhere you choose.

    • 7

Take two of your balls and drop them into your cup if your opponent sinks a ball in your cup, plays one of your balls, jumps a ball over another ball or a bumper, or sinks a solid ball before sinking a spotted ball.
