Farming Games for Kids

Whether your child lives on a farm or in the city, he may show some interest in barnyard animals and the duties farmers perform on a daily basis. Playing some age-appropriate farming games allows your child to learn more about life on the farm as well as the importance of cooperation and teamwork.
  1. Sloppy Piggies

    • Prepare for this party game by first making some gelatin dessert. When ready to play the game, scoop up some of the gelatin and place it into as many bowls as there are players. Put the bowls down side-by-side on the ground, leaving a few feet between each bowl. Seat one child behind each bowl and tell the children their hands must stay behind their backs. When you say "Go," the kids all quickly eat their gelatin dessert as fast as possible without the use of their hands. The first child to clean his bowl completely wins the game and becomes the Sloppiest Piggy.

    Hay, Where Are the Animals?

    • Prior to the start of the party, gather some hay and spread it around a wagon or play pen. Within the hay, scatter various plastic farm animals, making sure to cover them up enough that no one can see them at first glance. Section off several circular areas outside the hay using rope to represent each child's "animal pen." Have the children surround the hay. On your mark, the children search for the animals within the hay. When they find an animal, they must race to their circles and place the animal inside. After the children have found all of the animals, count how many animals each child has in her animal pen. The "farmer" with the most animals wins the game.

    Grab the Pony's Tail

    • Begin the game by selecting one player to be the "Pony Rider." Line the rest of the kids up single-file and have them all hold on to the shoulders of the person in front of them. These kids are the "Pony." Tell the children in line that they have to run away from the Pony Rider while staying in their line and never breaking the link. The Pony Rider tries to tag the last player in line to grab the Pony's "tail." Whenever the last player in line gets tagged, he becomes the new Pony Rider, and the previous Pony Rider becomes the new leader of the line, or the head of the Pony. End the game whenever the kids get tired.
