CBC Kids Games for Preschool

CBC, the Canadian Broadcasting Channel, offers news, music, weather, entertainment and sports information for Canadians. (See References 4) In addition, their kids affiliate (Kids CBC) offers games, videos and information on television shows. Preschoolers have their own little corner on the CBC website, which is packed with several learning games for them.
  1. Blooming Bubbles

    • In this fun game, preschoolers will work on their counting skills with programmed characters. Bubbles, the friendly main character in the game, needs the help of your preschooler as she plants seeds for her garden. There are three levels---New Gardener, Growing Gardener and Master Gardener---designed to help preschoolers at their own level. New Gardener is for those who are just beginning to recognize numbers and match them with sets, while Master Gardener is for those who have some basic addition skills down pat. Characters appear at the bottom of the screen with seeds on their heads and kids must listen carefully to Bubbles' instructions and select the right character to plant the appropriate number of seeds. (See References 1)

    Poko Pippity Pop

    • With this game, kids will help Poko dress his friend, Mr. Murphy, for the seasonal changes in weather. The game helps reinforce counting skills as well and shows kids how various clothing items are worn during different times of year. They'll start by selecting a season, then they'll help make seasonally appropriate clothing choices by connecting dots from one to 10. Since the game won't connect the dots if they select the wrong number that comes next, it offers immediate feedback for kids. As they get closer to the end of the picture, Poko asks them to guess the item and when they finish, they'll see the item on Mr. Murphy. (See References 2) To help reinforce the seasonal theme, Mr. Murphy is shown wearing his complete ensemble in a seasonally appropriate setting at the end of each game.

    Doodlebops

    • The Doodlebops, a friendly group from Playhouse Disney, are popular with preschoolers around the world. Their energy is almost contagious and their songs are both catchy and funny. At the CBC website, your little ones can play online games with these very colorful characters. In "Where Are The Doodlebops?" kids use a magnifying glass tool to help find Dee-Dee, Roonie and Moe, and their instruments, among a crowd in a park. Once they find them, they'll hear the Doodlebops "perform" a short part of the show's theme song.

With the "Doodlephone" (another activity at the site), kids can select an instrument, such as a swirly straw, a glass of water, rubber ducky or guitar. They'll then "make a phone call" to play music with the Doodlebops. They may select one of their favorite Doodlebops songs, including "Wobbly Whoopsy," "Get On The Bus" and the Doodlebops' theme song, then start making music.
