How to Change a Pool Cue Tip

There is nothing worse when you want to play a game of pool than finding that there are no pool cues with usable tips. A pool cue with a badly shaped or missing tip will adversely affect the shots of even the most skilled pool sharks. While having your pool-cue tips changed by a professional will ensure the best setting for a new tip, it is less expensive and more convenient to learn how to change your pool-cue tips on your own.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the remaining portion of the old pool-cue tip using a razor blade.

    • 2

Sand the bottom of the new tip, using 60- to 80-grit sandpaper, until it is rough.

    • 3

Sand the bare plastic end of the pool cue flat, using the same 60- to 80-grit sandpaper.

    • 4

Cover the rough bottom of the new tip and the bare plastic end of the pool cue with a light layer of cyanoacrylate glue.

    • 5

Place the new tip, glue side down, on the middle of the bare plastic end of the pool cue, making sure it is perfectly centered.

    • 6

Hold the pool-cue tip in place for 30 seconds to allow the glue to dry.

    • 7

Turn the pool cue over so the tip is facing down.

    • 8

Trim any edges of the new tip that are hanging over the plastic end of the pool cue, using the razor blade.

    • 9

Apply a small amount of water to the tip and polish it with 400- to 600-grit sandpaper.

    • 10

Use the same 400- to 600-grit sandpaper to shape the new pool-cue tip to the radius that you desire.

    • 11

Allow the tip to dry before applying chalk and using the pool cue.
