What Is the Best Way to Hold a Pool Stick?

In order to improve your pool game you must ensure your grip is correct. Mishandling your pool cue stick results in striking the cue ball inaccurately, which in turns reduces your chances of actually striking your desired target. Once you have mastered the best way to hold your pool cue stick you are going to see a vast improvement in your overall game (possibly in the first game you use the new hold).

Instructions

  1. Classic Hold

    • 1

Stand with your legs roughly shoulder length apart. Keep your feet perpendicular to the table edge.

    • 2

Grab the end of the cue stick with your shooting hand, keeping it several inches from the butt. The palm of your hand should be on the top of the cue. Twisting your hand results in the shot hooking.

    • 3

Place your opposite hand on the table (palm down), roughly five to 10 inches away from the cue ball.

    • 4

Raise your thumb up slightly and slide the tip of the cue stick into the area between the thumb and index finger.

    • 5

Keep your fingers on the table to prevent your hand from slipping. Slide the cue stick between your thumb and index finger several times to practice, then push foward with your shooting arm until the cue stick strikes the cue ball.
