Indoor & Outdoor Activities & Games

Playing games with the kids can be a fun activity both inside and outdoors. This is especially true during those months when the sun is shining bright and the children are no longer in school. There is a wide array of activities to keep everyone occupied throughout the summer and into the winter.
  1. Crazy Eights

    • For many years card games have kept families occupied and it makes a wonderful indoor activity. This fact is true for both adults and children. Crazy eights is one card game that is fun for people of all ages. Each player will receive seven cards in the beginning of the game and the rest are put into the middle with one card turned upwards. Players will take turns putting in their cards based upon a match of suit or number. Eights are wild and can be used to change suit or color. If a player does not have a match, then they must draw cards until the appropriate card is found. The player that eliminates all cards first wins.

    Charades

    • Charades is a fun inside activity that is generally played during parties or after dinner. The game requires the use of a timer, pen, paper and note cards. List different movies, books, characters and even music titles on the cards before hand and put them into a bowl. Divide the room into teams and have players take turns drawing the cards and acting out the phrases and titles. Each person's team will try and guess who or what they are trying to act out. Keep track of each team's correct guesses and the group with the highest score wins.

    Water Gun Wars

    • There is nothing more fun than getting wet on a hot summer day. Water gun wars offers the opportunity to cool off and have fun all in one fun game. Larger water guns work best for this activity as they do not require as many refills. Divide up into teams and chase each other all over the yard squirting the guns along the way.

    Bug Collection

    • Kids are naturally curious and they have a great love for discovering things. Have them start a bug collection to fill their need to explore. Take a camera on a walk and allow the child to snap shots of the bugs that are found along the way. Upon returning home, go online and find out what each bug's species is and what their names are. Make an online photo album displaying the child's collection or print out the images and put each one on the wall. This activity is not only fun, but educational as well.
