How to Make a Cake Game

A cake game should be an enjoyable and tasty experience but also enlighten bakers about certain rules and guidelines of baking. In this manner, bakers will have a greater idea of the amount of flexibility that they have when it comes to the ingredients in a recipe. Such a game can also help bakers to become more aware of their taste buds and more sensitive to subtleties of flavor.

Instructions

  1. Secret Ingredient

    • 1

Give all the players the ingredients and tools that they need to bake a standard cake. Tell each baker that they must add one secret ingredient to the cake mixture and bake it into the cake. For example, secret ingredients could be things like hazelnut spread, raspberry jam, cream cheese, yogurt, apple sauce or zucchini.

    • 2

Give bakers one hour to prepare and bake their cakes. Allow the cakes to cool.

    • 3

Cut each participant a small slice of each cake. Each participant must write down their name, the name of the baker and what they think the secret ingredient was. The teacher or leader will collect all the papers and see who guessed correctly the most often. The person with the most correct guesses gets a prize.

    Substitutions

    • 4

Give each participant all the tools and ingredients that you need to bake a cake. Take one ingredient away from each person, except for flour. For example, you can take away the shortening, eggs, sugar, vanilla or milk.

    • 5

Tell each participant that they must find an original substitution for their missing ingredient. Give the bakers one hour to prepare and bake their cakes.

    • 6

Cut all participants a small slice of each cake. Participants must try each piece and on a sheet of paper write down their name, the name of the baker and what they think the substitution was. The leader or teacher will collect each paper and give a prize to the person who guesses correctly the most often.
