Geometry Games for Grade 5

According to Online Math Learning, "geometry is about the shape and size of things. It is the study of points, lines, angles, shapes, their relationships and their properties." Teaching these concepts to students begins early with visual aides and abstract thinking. Once children have reached the fifth grade and the introductory period of learning has passed, encourage deeper understanding of equation reasoning and strengthen problem-solving skills with board, card and online games.
  1. Cross Town Coordinates Graphing Game

    • Cross Town Coordinates Graphing Game offers a game board designed to resemble a large town. Intended for two to four players and suitable for ages eight years and up, players travel around the board on a scavenger hunt, practicing geometry and graphing skills. Two levels of play difficulty apply as one side of the board provides solely positive coordinates and the other positive and negative. Players pick up coordinate cards and move to their new destination. While graphing and moving around the town, individuals are also required to find various locations and once arriving at them, mark them off a list. The first person to clear her checklist wins. Over 150 coordinate cards are included in this game.

    Quizmo Geometry

    • Quizmo Geometry is intended for ages 10 and up and is suitable for two to 36 players. This is a bingo style card game, and each player receives at least one card per round of play. A "caller" calls out various equations and participants attempt to quickly solve the problems in their heads and then locate the answer on their card(s). If the answer is available, players cover it with a marker. Over 70 double-sided calling cards are included with more than 50 basic geometric shapes and concepts. The player who covers an entire row of answers first wins.

    Round About

    • Round About puzzle pattern game is intended for children eight years and older. Players choose a card with a geometric shape and attempt to solve the puzzle they receive. Participants can choose to play alone and take their time figuring out how to match the card image to several loose available pieces. Or players can set a timer and race against the clock. Players can also compete against one another and race to solve their puzzles before all other opponents. Forty-six puzzle pattern cards are included at varying degrees of difficulty. This game also allows players to strengthen visual memory skills.
