Cue Tip Repair Instructions

Cue tips will wear out with extended use. Once a cue tip has worn out, it will no longer hold chalk as well as it should, resulting in unwanted miscues--when the tip deflects off the pool ball without getting a strong hit. You may want to get a professional to replace your cue tip since it is a very delicate process, but it is possible to replace the cue tip on your own.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut off the cue tip with a knife. Do not cut too close to the ferrule to avoid damaging it.

    • 2

Remove what is left of the cue tip from the ferrule with a box cutter. Be extremely careful not to damage the ferrule's surface. It is important to completely remove the cue tip so you have a completely smooth surface at the tip of the ferrule.

    • 3

Sand the bottom of the new cue tip until completely smooth.

    • 4

Apply glue to the ferrule and carefully adhere the new tip. Wait a few hours to be sure the glue is completely dried. The tip should be slightly larger than the surface of the ferrule. This allows you to properly shape the tip once the glue has dried.

    • 5

Cut off the excess tip with the box cutter or knife. Again, be extremely careful not to scratch or damage the ferrule.

    • 6

File the cue tip into the desired shape. The end of the cue tip should have an even curvature.
