Scary Games to Play at a Sleepover

People in a group can play many different types of games, including video games, board games and party games. Sleepovers easily lend themselves to group games as well. Although some can be childish and whimsical, others can be spooky and scary. With some ingenuity and imagination, a regular sleepover can turn into a fantastic fright night for everyone.
  1. Body Parts

    • "Body Parts" involves several different textured food items, each representing a body part. Participants sit around in a circle in a dim or dark room while they listen to a storyteller talk about an evil witch falling apart into pieces. When the storyteller discusses each body part that falls off, he passes around a corresponding plastic container. Each one holds food items representative of the missing body part, such as grapes for eyeballs, apricots for the tongue, gelatin for the liver and other similar items. Without looking into the containers, participants must guess what the food items are, and the person who makes the most correct guesses wins.

Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board

    • "Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board" starts with participants placing their hands slightly under a single volunteer laying on the floor. As everyone is gathered around, a storyteller fashions a tale about the life of the volunteer lying on the floor and about her unfortunate death. Once the story is complete, the participants surrounding the volunteer begin chanting continuously "Light as a feather, stiff as a board" and lift her off the ground. This gives the spooky illusion that the "spirits" are assisting in the levitation process.

    Murder

    • "Murder" is a game that is best played with a lot of sleepover guests to add complexity and difficulty to the game. Participants must each draw a piece of paper from the hat and not reveal the contents to other players; one player's paper will have "Murderer" written on it. People must walk around the room, trying to figure out the identity of the "Murderer." During this time, the one marked as the "Murderer" must wink at people to "kill" them. The "victim" counts to three and then collapses to the floor. When somebody figures out the "Murderer's" identity, the accuser yells, "Stop! I know who the Murderer is!" and makes his claim. A wrong accusation will result in a "death," while a correct one wins the game.
