Fun Science Activities for High School

Teachers must find new ways to keep learning fun and interesting for students, especially when the students reach the high school level. It is hard to keep the students̵7; attention when it comes to subjects like science. Some science activities will help high school students learn and understand more about general science, biology, chemistry and physics. These will let the students have fun while learning.

Science Experiments
- Experimenting in class is one way to have fun while learning. Having experiments that deal with the current science lesson will help in letting the students understand the lesson through application and hands-on experience. This is also a good way to keep the students active, as they are the ones dealing with the experiments instead of just sitting and listening to the lectures of the instructor. Some of the famous experiments and lab activities for science include static electricity experiments, states of matter activities, dissection, mixing of chemicals, density experiments and many more. Seeing how things actually work will help the students digest the lessons. After conducting experiments, it is advisable to give out activity or experiment sheets so that the students can answer some questions regarding the experiment.
Outdoor Activities
- Another thing that will keep learning fun is to go out of the classroom and have outdoor activities that will help the students in the learning process. Having a new environment outside of the classroom can remove the boredom that students typically experience while in the classroom. These outdoor activities do not have to be field trips. Choose simple locations that are accessible, such as a nearby pond or forest. Have activity sheets with questions that the students can answer while observing the outdoors. Outdoor activities are ideal for lessons that deal with general science, biology, environment and astronomy. Observing the environment and organisms can be a fun and relaxing experience for the students.
Out of School Activities
- Out of school activities are always fun for high school students. This can be a field trip for them. Visiting different institutions and approaching science organizations in the area is a good idea. Some of the field trips for the students can be in science museums, planetariums, green houses or nearby lakes or beaches. The high school students can learn about astronomy, biology, general science and other topics included in the high school curriculum. It is important to give out work sheets that the students should answer after the field trip. They can also make projects or reports regarding the things learned from the field trip.
