Murder
PartyPlan.co.uk gives directions for "Murder," an indoor game for a large group. Tween girls in particular enjoy this game. All participants select a Narrator and the Narrator then instructs all the other players to sit in a circle on the floor and close their eyes. The Narrator then circles around behind the girls and taps three people on the head. One tap means the chosen girl is the murderer; two taps means she is the angel; three taps means she is the detective. The Narrator then instructs everyone to lie down and "go to sleep." Narrator announces "murderer awaken" and the murderer opens her eyes. Narrator asks her who she wants to kill, she points to someone, then returns to sleep. Narrator then asks the angel who she would like to save. Angel awakens, points and goes back to sleep. Finally, narrator instructs the detective to awaken and point to who she suspects, then returns to sleep. All girls then open their eyes. Narrator announces who was killed, but if the angel saved the same person, she is not dead. The game ends after the detective player chooses the correct murderer̵2;as long as the murderer has not killed the detective prior to the detective selecting her.
Body Part
The Party 411 website provides numerous game and activity suggestions for an enjoyable party. "Body Part" is suitable for elementary and middle school kids. To play this game you will need a brown paper lunch bag, plastic zipper bags, grapes, apricots, popcorn kernels, cooked spaghetti noodles, a tomato, macaroni noodles and gelatin. To begin, all kids sit in a circle in a dimly lit or dark room. One person tells a scary made-up story about a nasty witch who falls to pieces̵2;literally. As you talk about each body part, pass around the paper bag and have a sealed plastic bag inside of it with the food resembling that particular body part. Everyone guesses what food is being used for each part. For younger girls, a list of all the options is helpful. Add a couple extra foods to the list that aren't being used to make it more challenging. Examples of foods are grapes for eyes, popcorn kernels for teeth, macaroni noodles for intestines and a slab of gelatin for a liver. Whoever guesses the most "body parts" correctly wins the game.
Flashlight Tag
The web site PartyPlan.co.uk offers various sleepover games for younger and older girls. If you have access to a backyard, preferably fenced-in and with bushes or trees for hiding, "Flashlight Tag" is a fun, active game particularly enjoyed by younger kids with energy well past sundown. Send all players to the backyard, each with her own flashlight (bigger than a penlight). Players should wear dark clothes and shoes that can get dirty and take off all jewelry before play starts. Girls designate one person to be "Hunter" (if the group is larger than seven people, pick two hunters). Everyone agrees upon the Hunter base, where she will count to 60. All other participants hide while Hunter counts. When Hunter spots an individual, she must yell out her name and flash her light somewhere on the individual's body. When a player is caught, she must go to the Hunter's base and wait for another player to rescue her. If a girl wishes to rescue someone she must not have been caught herself and must race to the base and touch it and take the trapped girl with her. These two players then have 30 seconds to run away and hide again. The average game lasts 20 minutes. If Hunter has not caught all players within this time frame, she can elect to keep playing for another 20 minutes or call a time out and the first person caught becomes the next Hunter.
