Magic Ball Tricks

Magic ball tricks usually involve a ball levitating, disappearing or rotating. They can also create the illusion of a ball. Street magicians such as David Blaine and Chris Angel have performed tricks like these. Both adults and children love to watch these kinds of magic tricks. Learning how to perform magic ball tricks isn't as complicated as you might think. Try the following tricks for a birthday party or at small gatherings. Your friends will be amazed.
  1. Floating Ball Trick

    • You only need a metal ladle for this trick. Before performing this magic trick, bend the ladle so it is at a 90-degree angle to the handle. Slide the ladle under your arm (where your arm pit is) and hold it tightly to your body to keep it in place. Stretch out your forearm and let the ladle rest on your wrist. The ladle's spoon will now hover over your hand. Cup your other hand (with the magic ball) and place it above the ladle. Twist the hand that's holding the ladle. This will create an illusion that the ball is floating. Be sure to keep the ladle hidden when performing this trick. Have your audience sit directly in front of you so they can't see it.

    Invisible Ball Trick

    • This is more of an illusion than a magic trick. The reaction of your friend's nervous system is what makes this trick work. Pick a friend to perform this trick with. First, spread out your hands to give the impression that you're holding a large and heavy ball. Tell your friend that you need help carrying it. Ask your friend to place his hands over your hands. When his hands are on yours, push against his hands with your hands. When you feel your friend's hands moving, tell him to hold the ball tighter so the ball doesn't fall. Continue exerting pressure on his hands for at least a minute. Tell your friend that you have to let go of the ball, but have him still hold onto the ball. Let go by sliding your hands out from underneath his hands, your friend should feel the sensation of holding a ball in their hands. Try this trick on a few more friends so they feel the trick for themselves.

    Silk and Magic Ball Trick

    • The sleight of hand is a trick magicians learn, and this trick emphasizes it. You'll need a hat, small wand, a black ball, a white ball and a colored scarf. Tennis balls or golf balls work well. Place the hat on a table with the balls inside the hat. Put the wand in the hat and drape your scarf over it, while grabbing both of the balls in one hand as you reach inside the hat to get the wand. Place the white ball in the palm of your hand and the black ball between your thumb and index finger. Pull your hand out of the hat with the black ball facing the audience. Keep the white ball hidden as you reveal the black ball. Again, drape your scarf over the black ball and switch the positions of the balls in your hand. Grab the scarf and the white ball with your left hand at the same time. Reach your right hand into the hat and grab the wand, while putting the black ball back into the hat. Wave your wand over the scarf and hat and reveal both the black and white balls.
