Fun Outdoor Activities for Adults

Enjoying the outdoors is something that adults can do just as well as children. There may sometimes be a difference between what an adult considers fun outdoor activities and what a child considers fun, but the common goal should be to enjoy the time out of the house.

Tug-Of-War
- The main item in a tug-of-war is a strong rope between 15 and 20 feet long. Be certain that there is an even number of people on each of the two teams, and that there is an even distribution of the stronger people. To mark the rope's center point, tie a length of cloth halfway between the rope ends. Use two other ropes laid perpendicular on the ground to mark each team's "goal" --- the place the rope's center marker must cross to declare one team the winner.
Hot-Air Ballooning
- Hot-air balloon rides provide a bird's-eye view.
  
  Adults who have never tried a hot air balloon may enjoy the slow sensation of flying through the air that a balloon offers. Charter a balloon from a qualified pilot, and you can get a group together to help lower the cost per person.
Nature Scavenger Hunt
- Create a list of items that can be retrieved in a pre-determined area and have a nature scavenger hunt. This is the kind of scavenger hunt that relies on items that nature has placed for you. The hunt organizer provides each team with a picture guide to show the players what items to find. The guide can include different kinds of flowers, leaves from various trees, varieties of rocks and pictures of wildlife. Players should use pencils and sketchpads, digital cameras or a cellphone with a camera function to record their finds as proof. This is not only a personal-safety measure, but is environmentally safe as well.
Off-Road Vehicle Activities
- Adults interested in motor sports may enjoy off-road activities. Vehicles such as three- or four-wheel all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), Jeeps equipped for safe off-roading with roll bars and strong seat belts, or dirtbikes can be used to get off the paved road and explore the outdoors. Use trails that are designated for off-roading; any potential road impediments have been removed on these trails, making your experience much safer. Be sure to check local ordinances for any restrictions on off-road vehicles beforehand.
Drive-in Movie
- Sometimes a fun outdoor activity does not involve any strenuous motion at all. While a drive-in movie theater can be a place to take the entire family, it can also be an escape for adults. The drive-in movie theater offers the chance to enjoy a movie out in the open skies, and it can also help to bring back childhood memories for adults.
