Certificate
A certificate is an excellent award for a pinewood derby winner because it gives detailed information about why the certificate was issued, when the competition took place and the awarding organization. Free award certificate downloads are available on the Internet and allow you to customize each template. You can also start from scratch and create a certificate in a Microsoft Office Suite program such as Word or PowerPoint. Some of the staple information on each document should include Cub Scout Pack identification, date and reason for receiving the reward. You can issue the certificate as soon as the race is over by handwriting the name of the winner on the certificate, or you can supply the winner the certificate at a later date so you can type in his name and print out the document.
Display Case
A great deal of time and pride go into making a pinewood derby car because parents are encouraged to help their son construct the car of their dreams. When a car wins, it becomes a prized possession to the winner therefore awarding a pinewood derby car display case will allow the boy to cherish his creation in a unique display for many years. Choosing a display case with a small metal plaque that has an engraving of the award and date is an ideal way to personalize the award.
Future Ceremony Leader
A pinewood derby is held every year so the winners get to hold their title until another winner comes along the following year. Awarding pinewood derby winners should include a position as a ceremony leader in the following year's pinewood derby. The ceremony leader will announce the winner of the new race for the same category. This award idea allows the Cub Scout to bask in winning glory for one final moment and teaches him the joy of passing on a winning title.
