Simon Says
Simon Says is a classic child's game. It helps children learn to listen and follow instructions. This is a good way to prepare kids in kindergarten for higher grade levels.
To start the game, one person assumes the role of Simon. He stands in front of the other players and calls out commands. The players must follow any command starting with "Simon Says." Players should ignore all other commands. Any player who performs a command at the wrong time is eliminated. The game continues until one person remains, or the teacher can stop the game if it goes on for too long.
Musical Chairs
Musical chairs is a classic music game that helps kids in kindergarten develop rhythm skills. They learn to stay on the beat while marching in unison around the chairs.
The game requires enough chairs for all but one player. Put the chairs in a circle for children to march around. The children march until the music stops. As soon as the music stops, the children run to get a seat. The one player left standing is eliminated. The teacher removes a chair whenever a player is eliminated. Keep playing until only one player remains.
Bingo
Bingo introduces kindergartners to numbers and encourages image recognition. Traditional bingo with numbers teaches children number recognition. Photo bingo teaches children to recognize patterns and objects. However, both versions of the game follow the same rules.
Numerical bingo uses cards with numbers printed on them. A caller shouts out a number and holds the number so the children can see it. Players then check to see if the number appears on their card. Photo Bingo is the same except the numbers are replaced with images. The caller holds up a card containing a photo. Players look at their card to see if they have the same photo. The goal is to match an entire row either diagonally or vertically.
