Hot and Cold

• Use cupcakes as the item hidden for several games of "Hot and Cold". Children can take turns hiding a cupcake while the other preschoolers close their eyes. A child can help the others find the cupcake by directing them with "hot" if they are close to the cupcake and "cold" if they are far away. The lucky child who finds the cupcake gets to enjoy the treat while the other children continue playing until everyone has found a cupcake.

Pin the Candle on the Cupcake

• Before working with preschoolers, Make a large pretend cupcake and several pretend candles. Play a game of "Pin the Candle on the Cupcake" by giving each child a turn wearing a blindfold and attempting to stick the candle on the cupcake. Enjoy real cupcakes after everyone has had a turn.

Colorful Creations

• Turn decorating cupcakes into an educational game by using colorful sprinkles and enforcing color recognition with preschoolers. Before working with children, separate colored sprinkles into small containers--red in one cup, yellow in another and blue in a third. Give each child a frosted cupcake and have them listen as you name a color. See who can sprinkle the correct color on their cupcake. Continue playing until the cupcakes are covered and then eat the colorful treats.

Alphabet Fun

• Learning the letters of the alphabet is an important lesson for preschoolers. Create alphabet cupcakes before playing the game by writing the first letter of each child's name in icing. Place all the lettered cupcakes in alphabetical order on a table preschoolers can see. Children can see if they are able to line up in alphabetical order, just like the cupcakes. Once the children are successful, let them find and eat a cupcake that coordinates with the first letter of their name.
