How to Set Up Pool Table Marks for Scratches and Breaks

Those who gaze over the expanse of green felt on their new pool table may notice that it's different from the ones they play on in bars or at friends' homes before realizing the green is unmarked. This could make for confusing play--they have to put at least one spot to indicate where to put the balls for the break.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the middle of the three diamonds or spots embedded in the pool table rail along the long side, between the end of the table and the center pocket.

    • 2

Use the measuring tape or yardstick to find the straight line between that middle diamond and its counterpart across the table. Make a very light chalk line as close to the halfway point as you can estimate.

    • 3

Locate the two middle diamonds on each end rail of the table.

    • 4

Use the measuring tape or yardstick to delineate a straight line down the middle of the table. Where this line meets your previous chalk mark, make a cross mark.

    • 5

Remove the pool table spot from its backing and adhere it to the cross mark on the table.

    • 6

Repeat the same on the other end of the table, if desired.
