How to Make Your Own Voodoo Doll Game

Voodoo dolls have a cultural history embedded in tradition. However, they can also be fun to play with, making a game of the practice, as a means to relieve stress and work out frustrations. It should not be done in a manner that might insult actual followers of voodoo. Remember you are only playing a game and not making fun of their practices. For your own voodoo doll game, all you need to do is make a simple voodoo doll and have some pins ready. For this game, we'll look at making a doll for a specific person, incorporating his or her image on the doll.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut out a simple human shape, round head, torso and limbs out of the fabric. Cut two of these, one for the front and one for the back. Voodoo dolls are typically small, no more than six inches long. Voodoo dolls can have distinct legs or appear to have no legs at all with a long torso instead. The design is up to you.

    • 2

Pin the shapes together. Sew closely around the edges, leaving open a small side seam so you can turn the shape inside out. Turn the doll inside out.

    • 3

Load a photographic image into editing software. Scan in a photo of the person's face if you don't have a digital image. For example, if making the doll of someone famous, you can usually find an image in a magazine or newspaper.

    • 4

Size the face image to fit your doll's dimensions. Print the image on the dark T-shirt transfer paper. Then follow the transfer's instructions, and iron the image onto the face of the doll.

    • 5

Fill the doll with stuffing, going through the opening. Then stitch the opening closed. Now your doll is ready for game play.

    • 6

When feeling frustrated at this person, stick the doll with pins and leave them in to do their "work." Sometimes, just squeezing the doll or thumping its head will also relieve frustrations.

    • 7

Play a spell-casting game with your voodoo doll. Perhaps you want your famous person to accept a role in movie or you want a politician to vote a certain way. Pretend that your spell can make this person do something. Create a spell, using rhyming words, light a candle and wave the doll through the smoke curling off the wick. See if your spell has worked after a couple of days. Have fun. Remember that, for you, it's just a game.
