How to Make a Corn Hole Directions

Backyard barbecues, family reunions and tailgating parties can feature a variety of exciting games and events, from horseshoes to swimming. If you are looking for something just as much fun but not quite as strenuous as horseshoes, try corn hole, a game similar to horseshoes that uses bean bags to compete. This game has gained popularity over the decades, leading to the formation of the American Cornhole Association in 2004 to regulate the game. You can buy cornhole equipment at sporting goods stores, but you can also create your own.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a sheet of plywood 48 inches by 24 inches for the cornhole board.

    • 2

Mark a point 9 inches from one short edge of the board and 12 inches from the long edge. Using that point as the center, draw a 6-inch circle around it.

    • 3

Cut out the circle with a jig saw and sand the edges smooth.

    • 4

Cut two 12-inch lengths and two 2½-inch lengths of 2 x 4 lumber; these will serve as the legs for your board.

    • 5

Glue or screw the 12-inch legs to the board at the two corners nearest the hole. Attach the short legs to the remaining two corners. This will create the correct slope for the board.

    • 6

Fill in any dents or scratches in the wood with wood filler and a putty knife. Follow all instructions on the wood-filler package regarding proper setting and drying time.

    • 7

Sand the board and legs with fine-grit sandpaper.

    • 8

Apply a thin layer of wood primer to the board surface and legs. Allow to dry thoroughly, and then paint the board and legs the color of your choice. Apply at least two coats; allow each coat to dry before painting on the next. Paint provides a smoother surface, so the beanbags can slide.
