Kosher Food Games

Kosher food is a specific set of foods prepared a certain way for those who are Kosher within the Jewish culture. There are a number of games people can play which will help them memorize which foods are Kosher and which foods are not Kosher, as well as games played within the Jewish culture itself dealing with kosher food.
  1. Kosher Food Quiz

    • There are a number of quizzes you can play online which will test your knowledge of Kosher food, with a variety of questions about adding toppings, cooking certain dishes and generally making food in a Kosher way. Questions include: adding garnishes to particular meals, like sour cream, so that it doesn't violate the rule against mixing meat and milk; or what vegetable is the least popular for a Kosher cook. All of the questions on these quizzes examine your knowledge of kosher food and the religious rules associated with the Kosher diet and lifestyle.

    Find the Afikomen

    • A game that actually exists within the Jewish religious culture involves kosher food combined with a rudimentary scavenger hunt. Hiding the Afikomen, a piece of matzoh bread which is Kosher unleavened bread reflecting the Jewish people's time wandering the desert in Egypt and the Middle East, is done over Passover Seder, where the middle piece of matzoh is broken in two and the larger piece (the Afikomen) is then hidden by whomever is leading the Seder. After the meal, the children at the Seder are usually sent to find the piece of unleavened bread, teaching and reminding them of the story of how the Jewish people survived in the desert. Whoever finds the Afikomen is often given a handsome reward. This search can be taken to a new level by making it more of a scavenger hunt, with written clues leading to other written clues and ultimately leading to the Afikomen.

    Kosher Cooking Games

    • By purchasing a wide variety of Kosher food, kids (and adults) can be taught how to cook a number of Kosher meals. Purchase meats, cheeses, breads and vegetables that can be eaten on a Kosher diet and then have kids (or other adults) try to make as many different dishes as possible from these ingredients. They won't actually be making these dishes, but rather listing what it takes to make each dish or meal by writing them down. Give them a time limit and then check all their ingredients to see if everything they have written down would actually pass as Kosher. Whoever has the most correct Kosher dishes written down wins and doesn't have to cook or clean up the Kosher meal that will be prepared.
