Outdoor Church Games

Church members can have fun bonding over outdoor games like relay races, capture the flag and touch football. The fresh air and physical exercise you get from playing outdoors is also a nice change of pace from being cooped up inside and helps break the ice with new congregants.
  1. Splash Attack

    • Splash attack modifies the popular capture the flag game by adding water balloons into the mix. The object of splash attack is to invade the other team's territory and capture its flag without getting hit by a water balloon. The game lasts for three rounds--and once you've been hit by a water balloon, you're out for that round. If you hit the referee, intentionally or not, three players from your team have to sit out for the duration of that round.

    Slip 'n Slide Relay

    • For this relay, you'll need two of the longest Slip 'n Slide rides you can find and two softball bats. Divide the group into two teams and have each team send one player at a time to run down the designated Slip 'n Slide mat. If you're unable to slide completely down the mat, you must crawl military style for the remainder of the slide's length. Once you've completed the slide portion of the relay, pick up the softball bat and spin around in a circle 12 times with one end of the bat to your forehead and the other end touching the ground. After your last turn, drop the bat and race back to the other end of the Slip 'n Slide to tag in the next person on your team.

    Eternal Dodgeball

    • This variation on the popular dodgeball game has no teams and each player is competing strictly for himself. Once you're hit or your ball gets caught, you're out. You're allowed back in the game when the person who took you out gets taken out. To make it interesting, if you were holding a ball when you were thrown out, you cannot move once you're back in the game.
