Helicopter Game Hints

Flight simulators are a very popular form of video game. A large number have been released for multiple platforms, including PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo systems. While airplanes and fighter jets are the more common flight games on the market, there are a lot of helicopter games as well. Helicopter flight games can be based more on realism or on a more arcade style of action and firefights.
  1. Comanche 4

    • Released in 2001 for PC, Comanche 4 abandoned any attempt at realistic simulation in favor of the high-action goal of blowing up as many enemies as possible. While the helicopter can be difficult to control in flight, the combat controls were designed to be as "pick up and play" as possible to appeal to a broader audience. While missions are locked when you first start playing, you can unlock all the missions if you enter your pilot name as "WolfBlitz." During game play, if you type the ' (apostrophe) key, you will pull up a menu to enter cheat codes. Enter "6b28e699" to get temporary invincibility for about the next 15 minutes.

    Fireblade

    • Fireblade was released by Midway for the PlayStation 2 in 2002. The game offered some unusual features such as first-person action sequences and a helicopter cloaking device that made it stand out from other games. You play a pilot for an anti-terrorist unit that is in combat with eastern nations operating suspected terrorist training camps. Many of the missions require troop support, so a good tactic in Fireblade is to utilize stealth mode and thermal vision to utilize your mini-gun as more of a sniper rifle. You'll unlock a sniper rifle range mini-game by beating Campaign 1 and unlock other games by beating the remaining three campaigns.

    Super Thunder Blade

    • Super Thunder Blade was released for Wii's Virtual Console service in 2007. The game was poorly received because of its short length and relatively choppy game play. It was inspired by the film Blue Thunder from 1983 and your goal is to blow up as many enemy aircraft and vehicles as possible while navigating through the city. Each of the four levels has a "safety route" where you can safely navigate each level by sticking to the same flight path every time. You can avoid all enemy gunfire by setting the game difficulty to "difficult" and then stay in the upper right or left corners of the screen while continuously firing your guns. You will not take any damage for the first three levels.
