How to Hand Craft a Pyramid Puzzle

Creating a puzzle is a craft that can be performed by an adult or child. The end product will be a unique and useful game that can be created again and again or mounted on a wall as a decorative conversation peice. Even with minimal artistic skill, the craft can be created with success through careful planning. To create a mechanical pyramid puzzle--a 3-D puzzle in which pieces are stacked to form a pyramid shape--you can use clay for a solid, sturdy craft, or a Styrofoam block for a quick and easy creation.

Instructions

  1. Clay Puzzle

    • 1

Mold a pyramid shape out of clay. Make sure the shape and size of the pyramid meets your specifications. Make sure it is a decent size, at least six inches tall and the base six inches wide, since you will need to break this into stackable pieces.

    • 2

Cut chunks out of the pyramid until you have dissected it into several pieces. Be careful not to re-mold the clay as you are dissecting it, as this will impact the successful reconstruction once the pieces have set.

    • 3

Bake the clay at 250 degrees for about 30 minutes to cause the clay to harden. Once dry, paint the pieces the desired color and practice reassembling the puzzle to make sure all pieces stack together correctly.

    Styrofoam Pyramid

    • 4

Cut the block into the shape of a pyramid.

    • 5

Dissect the pyramid into several smaller shapes and pieces.

    • 6

Paint the pieces the desired color. Painting them all a uniform color will help ensure difficulty and challenge in re-assembling the puzzle.

    • 7

Practice re-stacking the pyramid puzzle once the paint has dried completely.
