Virtual Villagers: A New Home Cheats & Tricks

Virtual Villagers - A New Home is a real time adventure game. The game begins when villagers land on a deserted island. The player must teach them how to survive, guide them in developing their village, and solve sixteen puzzle quests. There is only one actual cheat written into the game by the developers, but there are a number of tricks that can aid the player.
  1. The Mushroom Cheat

    • Prevent Starvation with Mushrooms

Food is a critical issue throughout the game. Mushrooms will, at times, be the only way to prevent starvation. They always appear in the same six spots, so make note of where you see them and check those places frequently.

Each mushroom is worth eight food points. Mushrooms are only collected by children, and only by dragging a child onto the mushroom. However, the number of mushrooms collected can be increased by dragging more than one child onto the same mushroom. Accomplish this by stopping the game.

    Stop!

    • To use the mushroom cheat, and for some other actions, you will want to pause the game. Pressing the space bar accomplishes this action.

When you see a mushroom, hit the space bar immediately. Find all children and drag them onto the mushroom. Press the space bar again, and the game will resume. Each child dropped onto the mushroom will pick one.

Also use this trick to stop the game when attempting to make a villager pregnant, or get them to perform a new task. You can drag and drop villagers as often as necessary while the game is paused.

    Cross Train

    • This takes patience.

Without changing the assignment in a villager's status, drag her onto a different job. Once she completes that task successfully, she will occasionally leave her own job to perform the other one. This is especially helpful for food gathering and building tasks.

A villager cannot go to a task she has never seen, so repeat this process for new building or food gathering tasks.

Some villagers will have success on the first try. Others will require repeated effort on your part. Cross train all of your villagers no matter what their normal assignment.

    Real Time Isn't Always Real

    • Virtual Villagers is a real time game, so you can accomplish tasks by advancing your computer clock forward.

Be careful when doing this because when you change it back, it also affects the game. If you don't have a lot of food stocks and you move the clock forward and then back, you may find it taking 10 hours for your farm to produce - plenty of time for all your villagers to starve to death.

    Don't Grow Too Fast

    • Too Many Babies

Children eat as much as adults, and nursing mothers don't return to work for two years of game time. Consider these things before deciding to make babies.
