Relay Race
Break the children off into groups of two. Tie their feet together, loosely, using some string or yard. Designate a starting and finishing line for the children. The object of the game is to get from the starting line to the finishing line, running and without falling. This game encourages teamwork and coordination. To be safe, never tie the string around the children's legs too tightly. If the string is too tight, they may fall.
Water balloon toss
A water balloon toss is always fun, especially on a hot summer's day. Divide the children into groups of two, having each child stand across from their teammates. One child on each team starts with a water balloon. Standing two feet from one another, the first teammate tosses the water balloon to their teammate. If the teammate catches the water balloon, they each take a large step backwards. If the teammate does not catch the water balloon, then he or she gets soaked. The last team standing with their water balloon intact is the winner.
Make your own cake contest
Instead of making one large cake for anyone, make cupcakes for the children. Set out a platter of frosting, whipped cream, sprinkles, and chocolate chips for the kids to decorate their cupcakes with. All of the kids can then vote for the best cupcakes in the group.
