Football Game Ideas for School Spirit Week

Spirit week is a greatly anticipated and important week in the life of a high school and college student. The highlight of the week is typically the homecoming football game, which is typically either the first home game of the season or the last home game of the season. The events during spirit week are meant to lead up to the football game and build the mounting excitement and enthusiasm.
  1. Teachers Vs. Teachers

    • Many schools hold powder puff games before the big homecoming game where the football players dress as cheerleaders and cheer for the event and the cheerleaders play football. Put a new spin on this old tradition by incorporating faculty. Divide the faculty into two teams, perhaps pitting one department versus another and delegate another group to serve as the cheerleaders. Invite the entire student body to cheer on their favorite team and watch the spectacle.

    Spirit Fence

    • To foster school pride and enthusiasm for the big game, paint several dozen Styrofoam cups the school colors. Squeeze the cups into the holes in a chain link fence surrounding the school or stadium in formations. The formations could be an outline of the school mascot or slogans like "Go Panthers" or "Go SRU."

    Pump-Up Pinata

    • Hang a pinata in the varsity team's locker room that is the shape of the opposing team mascot or is simply the opposing team's colors. Place a bat and a blindfold in the room as well. Before the big game, have the team members build up anticipation and pump up their adrenaline by whacking the pinata to pieces before going out onto the field.
