Mall Scavenger Hunt Ideas

For your next birthday party or social gathering, consider organizing a scavenger hunt at the local mall. Hosting a mall scavenger hunt allows you to mix different activities, such as shopping and fact finding, into the search. Teams race not only to complete their list as fast as possible but to be as complete as possible.
  1. Information Hunt

    • Provide the teams with a list of questions about the mall. Include the operating hours of the mall, as well as the operating hours of each anchor, as items to find. Ask the teams to determine how many stores there are in the mall. Have them find out the number of stores in categories such as ice-cream shops or shoe stores. Other items that can be discovered include the number of information booths in the mall and the number of restrooms. In addition to answering questions, have each team collect as many business cards as possible (but each team can collect only one per store). Assign each question and task a number of points, with the team with the most points winning. If there's a tie, the team that returns first wins.

    Shopping List

    • On the day of the scavenger hunt, create a shopping list of items from various stores in the mall and write down the prices for each one. This list must be created the day of the hunt to verify the prices. Choose items that are in difficult areas of the store to locate, such as a clearance section in the back of one of the anchor stores. Present the list, without the prices, to each team. Each team must find the prices for each specific item at the store indicated. The team with the most items accurately priced wins. If there's a tie, the first team to return wins.

    Treasure Hunt With Clues

    • Create a list of items to be found, but instead of specifying the stores that the teams need to visit, write it in clue form. As an example, tell the team to purchase an item under $5 from a store named after an item in your car. The store would be Radio Shack, and the team would have to bring back the item and receipt to prove where it was purchased and its cost. Another clue could be to visit the store that hosts a big parade in New York City every year and get a shopping bag from it. The team would have to bring back a shopping bag from Macy's. Create these clues for 15 to 20 stores, outlining a different task to complete or item to buy at each one. Set a time limit, with the team that has the most clues completed winning. If there is a tie, the first team that completed the list would be the winner.
