Mall Scavenger Hunt List Ideas

When you organize your next party or gathering of friends, introduce them to mall scavenger hunts. These types of scavenger hunts use either cameras or limited budgets, and challenge the contestants to collect more items or collect items worth more points than the other teams. Limiting the budget for a mall scavenger hunt requires teams to use their creativity to get as many items as possible.
  1. Items That Are Free

    • In this scavenger hunt, the contestants are not permitted to spend any money. Purchasing any item disqualifies the team. Some items that you can include on the list include fliers from individual stores, with bonus points awarded if one team has a flier that none of the other stores collected. Other items could include credit card applications from stores, cologne or perfume samples, business cards and gift card envelopes. Assign points to each item based on the level of difficulty you feel the teams will have in obtaining them at the mall you choose.

    Single-Color Scavenger Hunt

    • Assign one color to each team. Present each of the teams with the same scavenger hunt list. Each team may only collect items that match their team color. Choose a budget for each team, between $10 and $20; then either have each team member chip in an equal amount to reach that total or the organizer can give each team that amount of money. All items must be purchased and have a receipt, to prove the item was purchased and the price of the item.

    Alphabetical Scavenger Hunt

    • Give each team a list of the letters of the alphabet. Teams must find items that start with each of the 26 letters of the alphabet and fill them in on the team scavenger hunt list. If your mall permits photography in the mall, this can be done using cameras. If photography is not permitted, give each team $25 and require that all items be purchased using that allowance. The team must turn in all of their receipts to verify that the team stayed within budget and purchased each of the items.

    Super Savers

    • Give each of the scavenger hunt teams $20 to use for purchases during the scavenger hunt. Teams compete to purchase more items than any of the other teams. All items must be purchased and receipts provided to verify the price. If the team cannot get a receipt for an item, such as candy from a dispensing machine, it does not count. Before the scavenger hunt begins, determine whether containers that include multiple items, such as a pack of 10 hangers, count as one item or the number of items in the pack.
