Object
The object of the Electronic Battleship Advanced Mission game follows the basic objective found in previous Battleship games: to locate and destroy your opponent's five ships before they locate and destroy yours.
Set-Up
At the beginning of each game, a computerized voice prompt will ask you to input the number of players. You can play against another opponent or the computer.
Missions
You can choose from one of three missions for each game:
Mission 1 is the Territorial Waters Mission, which allows you to fire a single shot each turn. This is the easiest version to play and is suggested for beginners as you learn about the different weapons and strategies involved in the game.
Mission 2 is the Salvo Mission which gives you one shot for each ship that you have that has not been destroyed. For example, on your first turn you will have five ships so you get five shots. On your opponents turn, if he sinks one of your ships, on your next turn you will only get four shots. This continues until either you or your opponent sink all the other player's ships.
Mission 3 is the Target Plus One Mission. Each time you score a hit or detect an enemy ship with the use of radar you are given an extra turn or shot. The extra shots continue until you miss.
Weapons
You have a choice between using basic weapons (press 1 when prompted), which enable you to fire a single shot at a single coordinate, or advanced weapons (press 2 when prompted) that allow you to use specialized weapons unique to each ship such as radar, ant-aircraft and attack planes. Study the special weapons and their uses to get the most form the Advanced Mission game.
Fleet Deployment
Choose from one of 100 pre-programmed formations (press 1 when prompted) or customize your ship locations (press 2 when prompted). If you choose to customize your deployment, carefully follow each voice prompt. You will begin with the aircraft carrier. The computer will tell you to place the carrier on the grid and program in the coordinates. You only need to program the first and last coordinates for each ship. For example if the aircraft carrier is positioned in A1, A2, A3, A4 and A5, you only need to program in A1 and A5. Continue following the computer prompts until all ships have been placed on the grid.
Game Play
To begin playing, choose a coordinate, enter it on the keypad and press the fire button. Listen for the sound of the missile and the computer's response. Record on your grid if it is a hit (red peg) or a miss (white peg). Continue with your turn based on the mission you have chosen to play. Be sure to keep track of your hits and misses as the computer will record a miss if you fire on a spot that has already been hit.
Winning The Game
When you have sunk your opponent̵7;s final ship the game is over and the computer will announce, ̶0;Enemy fleet destroyed!"
