Different Types of Cue Sticks

You can't play pool or billiards without a cue stick. But you have several options when choosing a cue stick.
  1. Types of Sticks

    • Cues come in three basic varieties̵1;the pool stick, carrom stick and snooker stick. Different materials give each one a different feel.

    Pool Sticks

    • Used primarily for playing pool, these sticks are typically made of maple and weigh from 17 to 21 ounces.

    Carrom Sticks

    • Typically shorter and stiffer than regular pool cues, carrom sticks are designed for play with harder cue balls.

    Snooker Sticks

    • Longer than pool cues, snooker sticks are eight to 11 millimeters in diameter to help players with finesse shots.

    Speciality Sticks

    • Some companies manufacture hand-crafted specialty sticks that fit a particular player's style.
