Christian Games for Retreats

During Christian retreats, it's important to have games that are fun, memorable and educational for everyone involved. You want to go beyond the Bible trivia games or picture recognition games that tend to be overused. Retreat planners should solicit ideas from the pastors, single church members, married couples and youths. By doing this, you'll come up with ideas that you can use for years to come. For example, you can host a speed dating event for the singles in your church where they'll have 10 minutes to get to know each other better.
  1. Cooking With Bible Foods

    • Have a cooking contest where participants can only use ingredients that were often used in Biblical times. You can have the singles compete against the married couples or older adults against the younger adults. Some of the historic Biblical foods you can cook with include wheat bread, barley, lentils, olive oil, wine, figs, grapes, fish and raisins. The judges can role play Biblical characters and the prize can be a gift card to a Christian bookstore in your area.

    Talent Contest

    • Have a nightime talent contest in which retreat participants showcase their talents, but they have to relate their presentation to Christian themes. For example, a retreat member can play a traditional hymn on the guitar while another participant might decide to showcase some homemade dolls that resemble Biblical female outfits. Or there might be someone who likes to recite Christian poems.

    Scrabble with Biblical Words

    • A way to get the children involved is playing Scrabble during the retreat and limiting the words to only Biblical themes. You can use proper nouns, and to make it interesting, offer prizes to the children by giving them baked goods such as brownies, cookies and cake slices each time they win a round.
